Story

The COFFEELISM brand is commonly known to have begun in 2016, but our story begins long before that. COFFEELISM was actually founded many years ago by Kantaphat Tabtimthongchai, a professional designer passionate about drinking coffee and the process of making the perfect cup.

Being a professional designer required a lot of travel, both domestically and internationally, to find inspiration for future projects. This provided many opportunities to drink coffee from a wide range of places. This extensive travel also paved the way for introductions and networking with others passionate about coffee. One person in particular being Khun Sawak, who introduced us to the coffee farmers on Doi Pha Tang, in Chiang Rai Province, Northern Thailand. Visiting the real coffee plantation highlighted the way of life of the farmers who strive every day to produce coffee beans of exceptional quality.

From that day, we stopped seeing coffee as only a drink, and something far more spiritual, interwoven with fascinating local stories.

Kantaphat moved from her career in professional design to focus more intently on the study of coffee production, qualifying as a Q Arabica Grader certified by the Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA) and the US Specialty Coffee Institute.

Following this course, she expanded her cooperation with the Doi Pha Tang community and supported the development of the plantation. Providing her knowledge and education to improving the quality of the coffee beans and developing market interest in the produce, distributing both domestically and abroad. The high quality of the coffee has received a positive response from the market, but out of what is sold, only about 70% will find its way to market. The remaining 30% of the coffee must be sold at a lower price and unsold produce from the season is discarded. This is to ensure that there is no coffee residue with time to prepare for the next season.

It is for this reason that Kantaphat was motivated to develop her own coffee shop, to utilise this remaining selection of beans at a reasonable price and provide a solution for the farmers.

In 2016, the brand COFFEELISM was established with the concept of A CUP OF INSPIRATION. This began with the opening of COFFEELISM STAND as the first branch located at Sathorn Soi 8, Silom Subdistrict, Bangrak District, a corporate district in the heart of Bangkok. Since then, we have expanded to many more branches both in Bangkok and the tourist cities in other provinces.

In 2016, COFFEELISM purchased the whole 30% of the remaining coffee from the farmers in Doi Pha Tang. Now, we have expanded to purchase the entire season’s produce, 100% of Doi Pha Tang’s harvest. In the future, we are working on plans to further expand the plantation and increase the number of yields per crop in line with the continued growth of the COFFEELISM enterprise.
